You’ll notice when you watch the Belmont Stakes this year that there is no Triple Crown winner. Also, the race is not at Belmont Park. Instead, the third leg of the Triple Crown takes place at the Saratoga Race Course.
Since Belmont Park was going through extensive renovations in December 2023, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the 2024 Belmont Stakes will be held at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, which is located about three hours north of Belmont Park.
Another round of renovations to Belmont Park occurred in 1967, the last year the major horse racing event was not staged there. The Aqueduct Racetrack hosted the races from 1963-67.

According to pay per head experts, the half-billion-dollar renovation is expected to be completed by 2025 and ready for the race in 2026. The present Belmont Park clubhouse and grandstand will be torn down, the backstretch fence will be replaced, and the barn area will be renovated.
The Belmont Stakes purse will increase from $1.5 million to $2 million, and the track length will be shortened from 1 1/2 miles to 1 1/4 miles because of the track shape. In previous years, the attendance at the Belmont Stakes has exceeded 100,000 spectators. The race on Saturday at Saratoga is expected to draw around 50,000 spectators.
Belmont Stakes Odds
Since Saturday morning’s betting activity began, Sierra Leone has been the clear favorite to win the Belmont Stakes 2024. Sierra Leone, trained by Chad Brown, crossed the finish line in second place in the Kentucky Derby after taking first place in the Risen Star and Blue Grass Stakes. The Belmont Stakes, which features ten horses, will be contested over the same distance as the Kentucky Derby, and he was drawn into post position nine.
Seize the Grey was the next horse up for wagers; he stayed at 4-1 all weekend and was half his 8-1 morning-line price on Saturday. The Preakness shows that Seize the Gray can win as a leader. On May 4, he won from off the pace at Churchill Downs. This versatility is a distinctive feature of his performance. Last summer, Seize the Gray broke his maiden at Saratoga and finished third in an ungraded stakes race in August. He so has experience at the track.
Saturday morning saw Mystik Dan, winner of the Derby, remain at 6-1 after opening at 5-1, and Mindframe, a newcomer to the 2-for-2 stakes, stayed at 7-1 after opening at 7-2. After his previous successes, Mystik Dan will feel confident heading into Saturday’s Belmont 2024 at Saratoga. He finished second place in May at the Preakness Stakes and won at Churchill Downs.
