Brewers Ended Its Deal with Bally Sports, MLB to Produce Games Next Season

The Milwaukee Brewers ended its deal with Bally Sports. In addition, Major League Baseball will produce and distribute the team’s television broadcasts next season. In 2025, MLB will also operate the TV broadcasts for the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians. Currently, the league handles the broadcasts of Colorado, San Diego, and Arizona. According to pay per head reviews and news sites, the Texas Rangers didn’t renew with the Diamond Sports Group. However, they haven’t announced the future of their TV broadcasts.

The Brewers had the opportunity to return to Diamond once their contract expired in 2024, but the company is now amid bankruptcy procedures. Major League Baseball has long tried to get streaming rights from every club so that its app can show games without bans.

Diamond’s bankruptcy has created uncertainty surrounding broadcasts for several MLB, NBA, and NHL clubs, and this is all part of the failing regional sports network (RSN) paradigm.

Also, the announcers would be mostly the same, as they are all team workers. According to Schlesinger, the duration and content of pregame and postgame programs are yet uncertain.

Schlesinger dubbed the new Brewers-specific channel BrewersTV. It will be available on cable and satellite, although fans who now watch the games through those services will not be charged more. Despite the lack of immediate plans, Schlesinger stated that the channel will provide an opportunity for more non-game content in the future. Even if the games are accessible elsewhere (for example, Fubo, cable, and satellite all carry Padres games), Brewers fans still have several options for watching.

Some new features touted in MLB’s press release about the deal that Brewers fans might find interesting include umpire cameras, live look-ins with the MLB Replay Operations Center, and more opportunities to see interviews during games.

Fee for Brewers Games in 2025

Although the price will be around the same, fans will likely have fewer issues with MLB’s proprietary technology than Bally’s app. Customers using cable or satellite should not notice any change, and there will be no additional payment to watch other than a possible channel change.

Those in San Diego, for instance, may watch Padres games on the MLB.TV app. With the Padres.TV option, fans can pay $99 per year to watch only Padres games, but with the entire package, they can watch every baseball game, in-market and out-of-market, for $200. The MLB.TV app will remain mostly unchanged from year to year, except there will be no Brewers bans.

Schlesinger made it sound like the team may air certain shows on “over-the-air” television, which anybody with a regular signal receiver might pick up. But that’s apart from those who watch Brewers games via cable or satellite, who won’t notice much difference.

Shortly, Milwaukee will not be the only Major League Baseball team to confront the problem of decreased income. The MLB already has a system to divide profits; teams get money from lucrative national contracts that sell game packages to streaming services like ESPN+ and Apple TV+. Because of the accords, Major League Baseball allegedly set a new gross income record in 2022.

Although it may seem counterintuitive, the Brewers reduced spending during the 2023 and 2024 seasons while increasing their win totals. Although the team’s income will fall soon due to the forecast, Schlesinger highlighted the long-term gain from reaching more people with the games.
