The Calgary Flames traded Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars. In return, the Flames got Artem Grushnikov and two draft picks. In addition, Taney is the second player the team traded this season. Earlier in February, the club traded away Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks.
Tanev, a dependable veteran defenseman with fourteen seasons of experience in the National Hockey League, was one of the most sought-after names in the trade market due to his impending contract expiration. His four-year, $18 million contract, with a cap charge of $4.5 million, is ending this season.
The 34-year-old has played 56 games this season, scoring once and assisting on thirteen goals. According to sports betting reports, he also has a plus-16 rating.
Flames Traded Chris Tanev
According to sports betting software solution experts, Tanev becomes the latest addition to a Dallas defense with Ryan Suter, Thomas Harley, Esa Lindell, and Miro Heiskanen. After Nils Lundkvist and Jani Hakanpää suffered injuries, the Stars needed to replace a spot on their blue line.
Moving from a Calgary club that may not make the playoffs to a Dallas squad in a battle for first place in the Central Division with the Winnipeg Jets is a big deal for the Toronto native. A 35-17-9 record puts the Stars in second place in their division.
The Stars drafted Grushnikov, a promising young defenseman, in the second round of the 2021 draft; the Flames will be receiving him in the meantime. Throughout the American Hockey League (AHL) season, he has made 44 appearances with the Texas Stars, recording one goal, five assists, and a plus-three rating.
The Flames may continue to move players before the trade deadline, even if they have already dealt Tanev and Lindholm. The Calgary Canadiens are reportedly interested in trading goaltender Jacob Markstrom and defender Noah Hanifin.
