In January, players in Illinois bet $580 million on sports. Thus, it became the fourth state to achieve the $500-million milestone in a single month. Illinois got more than $2 billion in total wagers since it launched its sports betting market a year ago.

According to sports betting solutions reports, Barstool is the latest sportsbook in a very competitive market. In January, DraftKings led the field with 42 percent of the Illinois sports wagering market. The app and its partner Casino Queen got a combined handle of $244 million in January. Also, other online sportsbooks operating in Illinois are BetRivers, PointsBet, and FanDuel.
In January, the Illinois sports betting handle increased by 18 percent from December’s $491 million. Analysts expect the total handle for 2021 to reach around $6 billion.
CEO Jay Snowden of Penn National said that the Barstool app would go live in ten states before the year ends. The growth of the US’s legal sports betting sector presents an excellent opportunity for businesses and startups.
